3.-Amount paid to the Roman Catholic Chaplain for ministrations to the Roman Catholic employées of the Colonial Goverument as well as for all other contingencies for the year ending 31st December, 1879.

4.In addition to the above 318 employées and their families, the following numbers of Roman Catholics are resident in Hongkong :-

Portuguese, almost all of whom are tax-payers.

Chinose, most of whoin are tax-payers

5.-In India, as will be seen by accompanying printed paper, the Government provides the Church and furniture and pays the Chaplain.

6.--Hore in Hongkong the Colonial Government (very properly) has provided a Colonial Chaplain, aud paid the greater part of the cost of erection of a Cathedral Church for the use of those belonging to the Church of Englaud, viz:-----

The Colonial Government contributed in 1847 towards the erection of St. John's Cathedral, which accommodates 697 persons, £1,600 or about .............

In 1871, the Colonial Government contributed for the enlargement of the Cathedral In 1873, the Colonial Government contributed towards the purchase of an Organ for St. John's Cathedral
